The Softail® Standard

The Softail® Standard continues to be one of the most popular cruisers in the Harley-Davidson® lineup. It is a blast to ride and comfortable enough to be a commuter. It is stripped down and often referred to as a blank canvas upon which you can paint your perfect Softail®, but many enthusiasts love it as is and keep it as such. The riding position and suspension are both comfortable and functional. The bike is powered by a Milwaukee-Eight® 107 V-Twin engine, and antilock braking is optional.

What's New for 2022

The Cruiser family did not receive any major changes for the 2022 model year. The 2022 Harley-Davidson® Softail® Standard in Conyers is configured as the base level Softail®. Therefore, it is stripped down compare to the Street Bob® and does not have as many items that could change on a yearly basis. In addition, the Softail® Standard is sold only with Vivid Black paired with a chrome aesthetic.

Ride Characteristics

A defining characteristic of Softail®s in general is the stretched riding position. This bike also features mid-mount foot controls. The Softail® Standard is designed to deliver a barebones Softail® experience, but barebones certainly doesn’t translate to inferior. It delivers a great ride thanks to a Showa Dual Bending Valve fork and a robust suspension with a comfortable seat and ride height. There are also a wide range of customization options through which you can dial in the ride to your preferences.

Performance

The 2022 Harley-Davidson® Softail® Standard in Conyers is powered by the Milwaukee-Eight® 107 engine. This delivers more than 70 horsepower and more than 100 pound-feet of torque, and in this setup, that will be more than enough performance for the average rider. However, riders who want more oomph can opt for the Screamin’ Eagle Stage IV kit, which bumps displacement up to 128ci. Other notable performance characteristics include a 2-into-2 exhaust, a 6-speed transmission, a 19-inch Annihilator cast aluminum front wheel, a 16-inch inch Annihilator cast aluminum rear wheel and optional ABS.

This Is the Right Bike For

This is a bike developed for enthusiasts is like to cruise with a low-slung stance. It’s small and nimble enough for the city but feels right at home out in the country as well. If you’re unsure if the low-slung stance is right for you, then we highly recommend test rides to compare it against the other cruisers. This bike is also a great option for people who want to personalize their Softail®. Customization isn’t required by any stretch, but there is certainly a lot of opportunity for it here.

Making It Yours

There is great support for the Softail® Standard in the Harley-Davidson® catalog. You can certainly add to your Softail® over time, and the brand adds new items to the catalog each season. However, you also have the option to customize your Softail® Standard right out of the gate through what Harley-Davidson® calls customization packages. The Performance package adds the Screamin’ Eagle Stage II kit. The Coastal kit gives your bike a West Coast vibe. Day Tripper accommodates a passenger, and Touring adds a more comfortable seat, a windshield and detachable saddlebags.
