2023 Road King® Special
The Road King® is a touring motorcycle for riders who prefer not to have a fairing and prefer a streamlined and slammed aesthetic. The 2023 Road King® Special near Atlanta is even more slammed as it drops the windshield, adds mini-ape handlebars, upgrades the headlamp to an LED Daymaker and upgrades the standard 18-inch wheel to a 19-inch Prodigy wheel. Note that as of this writing, Harley-Davidson® is not currently offering the standard Road King® and has not made an official statement about its future. We suspect it’s undergoing a redesign and will return when the 2024 models are introduced.
What’s New for 2023
The 2023 Road King® Special near Atlanta does not arrive with any fundamental changes. There are small refinements, but these were mostly made at the platform level and trickled down. The biggest update is that all of the exterior color options being offered for the 2023 model year are completely new.
Performance & Ride Characteristics
One of the fundamental differences between the Road King® Special and standard Road King® traditionally is that the RKS has the more powerful Milwaukee-Eight® 114 V-twin engine. It also has a larger front wheel and lacks the windshield. The Special is otherwise the same as the standard model. It offers an upright riding position, a passenger seat, floorboards and stretched saddlebags. It does not have an infotainment touch screen, which is a defining design choice and another way that it fundamentally differs from the Road Glide and Street Glide outside of the lack of fairing. ABS and electronic-linked brakes are standard. Advanced rider-assistance technologies are optional.

The Road King® Special provides all the sophistication of the modern Grand American Touring platform but has the sensibilities of a cruiser. It’s a compelling balance that it strikes and one that appeals to a wide range of enthusiasts.
